Vancouver Main street car accident Sept 2, 2010

This is a Wild car accident I was waiting for my order of food around 5pm at Pao Tan Vietnamese restaurant on Sept 2nd 2010 and hear this big Bang like a construction sound and ran outside and someone yelled me to call 911 so I dialed in. I did manage to take few photos and video on my Black Berry phone. Just so happen I didn’t carry my Canon 5D Mark II all day due to meeting with client, well photo is not bad. The guy with a silver car is OK but he sure is a lucky guy, I believe he ran the light while the black SUV is turning west so the silver car hitted him and went to the 40 feet construction site. It is like a movie scene…wild!

First Wedding Dance Free Tips by Elaine Carson

Vancouver Asian wedding events first dance free tips

Wedding fist dance free tips by Professional dancer

Vancouver wedding events first dance free tips

Vancouver wedding events first dance free tips

I love dancing ever since I was in junior high and I was lucky to learn how to dance when I meet up a professional dance instructor Elaine Carson. I thought this is the time to bring out a Professional to help me out with this topic. Here is my good friend Elaine Carson from http://everybodydance.ca/

Your First Dance by Elaine Carson

As a Dance Instructor in Vancouver for almost 20 years, I have taught hundreds of couples how to dance for their wedding. One day Wayne brought his wife to my studio so they could learn to dance together. As he always thinking about the needs of his clients, he has asked me to provide some information for the bride to be on the first dance.

When you begin to plan your wedding, out come the bridal magazines, or scrapbooks of treasured photos and ideas. Your first thought is of the dress, and the ceremony. As the day approaches, suddenly you remember – I have to dance in front of people! For most couples, their only experience with partner dancing is rocking back and forth in a teenage slow dance.

Your first dance symbolizes so many things. It is the first time he takes you in his arms to dance as man and wife. It is two people working together in partnership. To dance you must move as one. To do this you must learn to become aware of each other – a wonderful skill for your future life together.

Of course, it is also fun. Your first dance is the start of the party!

The most popular dance styles for wedding dances right now are Foxtrot and Rumba, or you can choose from many styles of dance to express your personality: A traditional Waltz, a passionate Tango, or something more upbeat like a Swing or Disco dance. Your first dance can be as simple or as dramatic as you like…provided you start early enough.

If you have:

1 – 2 months: take 3 – 7 private lessons (don’t plan on one the week of the wedding as you will be too busy by then).

3 – 4 months: a weekly private lesson will provide you with enough time to dance confidently and competently with quite a bit of variety; possibly a short choreography.

-or a freestyle dance with more skill, styling, and variety.

5 – 6 months: weekly private lessons will allow you to have a choreographed dance routine

-or learn to dance in the group class and then take a private lesson or two for a special entrance and exit.

6 – 12 months: weekly private lessons for a choreographed or freestyle first dance. More time means increased skill level, more variety, and more style.

-or enough time to become quite competent taking only group lessons.

Whatever you choose, the most important thing is that you feel relaxed and confident on your wedding day.

We can help! Everybody can Dance!

Wedding photos flash or no flash and quailty of flash

The love we treasure

Photo one: Key light (artificial light) to match outdoor natural light.
Photo two: Technique camera skill to create the blue background like a movie without using Photoshop.
Photo three: No fill light on faces result flat skin tone.
Photo four: Usage of artificial key lighting.
Photo five: Fill light to make the photo look natural.

Wedding photographer like to use natural light for the portrait but not every photo can be done this way. In a sunny day when the sun is on top of the sky this will create a raccoon eyes but with the help of an artificial flash one will able to soften the dark shadows around the eyes. Again there is no magic to do this since on camera and it is important how a photographer can control this condition. With the too much or too little of the artificial light, the photo will look unnatural, too much light will cause the blow out details of the beautiful dress. Using a strobe or artificial light is not easy since decision is base on how experience is the photographer with the technique skill. If a wedding photographer say he only uses natural light for wedding but no matter how good he is there are photos going to be flat and people with raccoon eyes. Wedding photographer has a lot to learn even though many wedding photographer claim himself or herself as Professional due to the affordable of the dlsr camera. How many of them are really trained for wedding photography? Learning varies skill in technique lightings, posing, people skill and creative style to separate from other photographer. Remember a good wedding photographer Makes photo not taking photo; it is the quality of the photos and not the quantity you want to remember on your special day.

Being a Vancouver photographer I always look for new ideas, some from my own experience some from art and other inspiration by other wedding photographers in the world. Jerry Ghionis, David Oliver, Rob Heyman, Marcus Bell, Denis Reggie, Yervant, Joe Buissink, Jeff Ascough, David Beckstead, Martin Schembri are some of the best in the industry but it is the Style and personal touch makes them different. This goes back to one of my client’s email on my Blog regarding to Two Types of wedding photographers in Vancouver BC.

Looking at Jerry Ghionis’s work I can see he is talented in many skills range from fashion, fine art, his own vision, great with posing and people skills. You can tell he injected a lot of poses of fashion and color into his wedding photos. Besides being creative he also understand the important of technique camera skills; this in turn makes him the top wedding photographer in the world. I have no mean of copying him but find his work inspires me since and I do find we share the same passion in fashion, art, people skill and technique skills. Sure I like to be famous like him but with my own style and creating a story what my clients hire me for “The Art of Storytelling” My Portfolio.

Don’t need to adjust your glasses after looking at the photos; it is not a trick. It is a TS-E (Tilt Shift Lens) is frequently used in architectural photography to control perspective, and in landscape photography to get an entire scene sharp.

Some photographers have popularized the use of tilt for selective focus in applications such as portrait photography. The selective focus that can be achieved by tilting the plane of focus is often compelling because the effect is different from that to which many viewers have become accustomed. Walter Iooss Jr. of Sports Illustrated, Vincent Laforet, Ben Thomas, and many other photographers have images using this technique on their web sites.

I was using this lens for a wedding test shoot, with this expensive lens I was able to captures some creative photos but off course too much a good thing will not work well for the client. it is definitely is a cool lens. The Above YouTube video is something fun I found and it is interesting how we view the world with this lens. More technique reading here on the TS-E.

Finding a Vancouver BC wedding photographer in lower mainland

Finding a wedding photographer who can captures your moments can be hard to find since they are range from weekend warrior to Full time Professional. Whatever your budget is there are photographer for you but like anything in life you pay what you get. Finding a photographer Style before the budget is important. Here are the tips written by my client who was doing his photographer search. Here it is on my Blog. Below are some of the question you will need to ask yourself and the photographer.

Is your wedding photographer CARES about you or just your wallet?

Does your wedding photographer go through the location weeks before the ceremony so he understands where to capture the BEST photos?

Does he have a BACKUP plan if it rains?

Does the photographer sit down and plan what you need and draft out the ideas and makes YOUR wedding day a successful photo shoot?

Does he have BACKUP PROFESSIONAL EQUIPMENTS, cameras, lenses, lights, memories card, and batteries? What happen if the camera fails during ceremony? Is the extra camera close by?

Does he shoot with PROFESSIONAL EQUIPMENT or a $300 camera? The quality of photo degrades or more noise with the consumer camera. More notice when you print the files.

HIGH RESOLUTIONS photos should have min images size of 2000 X 3000 for clients

Is he a FULL TIME photographer or just a weekend warrior who takes photo as a hobby for practice?

Does he have a PHOTO ALBUM or print to show his work other than digital files on the first day of interview?

Does he really care about you; does he or she intend to offer you IDEAS or suggestions before the wedding?

Does the photographer have SCHOOL TRAINING? How long? Self taught?

Does he or she have the PEOPLE SKILL to make you comfortable in front of the camera or just someone doing his job?

Is the photographer does the POST PRODUCTION or sent off to someone else; if it is sent off to the third party it has less control over the quality of the photos.

Does the photographer offer you service that is free or available for PRIVATE LOG IN SITE to view the wedding highlight?

A full time Professional photographer will SPEND TIME to ensure repeat clients and they have no intention for a quick job in turn they take more time on the work. (Happy client is more important)Does the photographer have the PASSION for his work or just another job?

Photographer needs to be passion to what he does but also needs to have the technique skills, traditional training, understand posing, lighting, having the right Professional equipments, people skill and important to make you comfortable in front of the camera? If you feel uncomfortable chatting with the wedding photographer during the first interview chances your photos will guarantee to be off on your important day. A beautiful day will be ruin if your photographer does not have the all skills. If you have any question please feel free to email or call me anytime. I love what I do and that is why I choose the world of Professional Wedding Photography as my full time job.

Why Choose the field of Wedding Photography in Vancouver BC

admin · August 23, 2010 · 10:03 pm · Vancouver BC Wedding Photography, , , , , , , , , , , , ,

http://blog.FantasyWeddingPhotography.com

True Love with Passion

My friend who was taking a wedding photography course locally and I were choosing to be interview and I thought it would be cool to share my thoughts.
Student asks: Why do you choose the field in wedding photography?
Wayne Lam: I would say my life experience has leaded me to today. I would say all started 35’s years ago with my dad’s film 8MM movie camera; it was so interesting to see moving motion images at the time unlike today. Also my passion toward Art, Technology and the joy to work with people has made this a success marriage. Yes part of my marriage too! Able to document important part of people’s life in a storytelling part really excited me, even though the story is the same but the outcome with joy and emotions are different each time. Like a commercial you have 30’s second to tell and get to the point but here I use images to create something that is so powerful the couples will have many years to treasure or share for the future generations. What a joy to see the family to see the photos capture by me even though I will be just a memory.

Student asks: What style of wedding photography?
Wayne Lam: After many years of marriage really helped me to visual feel the emotion and romance side of my images; I’m doing the romance and emotions part without knowing. I was also inspired by traditional art of the Renaissance oil painting, sculpture, fantasy art, fashion magazine; movie and any images have its own aesthetic. I’m like a director with a storytelling method by using my skills in composition, lighting, texture, emotions, romance or just aesthetic images. I call it “The Art of Storytelling”

Student asks: Is it difficult to be a wedding photographer in Vancouver lower mainland?
Wayne Lam: Yes and No, all base what clients you want to tailor to. Yes it is technique challenge even with camera so affordable and ease to use. This technology will push wedding photographer either to be better or to slow them down. Some photographers are great with outdoor lighting but poor with flash indoor photos. To be a wedding photographer you have to be good in a lot of field: lighting indoor and outdoor, composition, posing, enjoys working with people, giving direction to clients, post production, working with print, work with your professional labs, how to push the print to be the best it can be, designing the layout of the album book and much more. I have to admire people claim they are self-taught because I don’t see myself doing everything in a self-taught. Many my trade skills are from school and workshop, I’m sure the top photographer is not a self-taught have some kind of schooling before became successful.

Student asks: What type of wedding photographers in lower mainland?
Wayne Lam: There are two types: Some photographer’s work will tailor to everyone’s taste since they get more business, other like myself will tailor to the niche market either who likes and feel the artist visual style. I’m sure most photographers of this market type will have no problem doing the common style line of work to please the common clients; again will this photographer be happier? Happier in the business side but not in his creative side, client hires us for our individual unique style. Some people loves the fast food restaurant and some prefer to be more individual. Marriage is a one-time events and I would not want my wedding photos to look like my brothers or friends style. Funny a client emailed me other day about these questions of the Vancouver Wedding Photographers Style, very well written by this client. Read more here.
